Darla Teagarden

I've had a folder of images from this lovely lady on my computer for a long time now that I look to for inspiration from time to time. I'm a sucker for details so photography that uses props and hand painted backgrounds instead of photoshopping every detail in really moves me.
Miss Darla Teagarden creates her dreamy images with props and costumes she made by hand. Her resume will make most of us jealous... pin-up and fetish model, makeup artist, writer, cabaret dancer and vintage clothing buyer just to name a few.
So here's a bunch of her photos. I hope they inspire you the way they inspire me.
All pics were taken from here.
Her blog is worth a look too!
If you like these pics you will enjoy these also.

Bearded Dames.

I've had a busy little day for someone who is still in their pjs. I just washed and dried all my makeup brushes because i'm helping out my friends little sisters photo shoot. All i know is it's going to be bearded ladies in 50's dresses and ill be doing makeup and modelling. I'm excited because since I left my last makeup job I had felt so uninspired.
I have another big weekend coming up. Dave is playing double bass in a Buddy Holly show then straight after i'm heading to a friends house haunting party. I'm stoked because its a dress up as your favourite dead celebrity theme. Which if you know me you will know who ill be dressing as.
Also on the derby front i'll be at this so you should come.

You can buy tickets for the bout on sunday here.

666 Photography

So many times i've thought of shoots that would be amazing but was limited by money and my lack of talent to make elaborate sets, props and costumes. But the team at 666 Photography has answers to all you're photo shoot dilemmas. Gayla takes all the photos and makes all of her props by hand, paints every backdrop and creates most of the costumes. Lisa Naeyaert is the lady behind all the fantastic makeup used in all the shoots as well. Too bad they are based in Austin otherwise I'd be begging them to work with me.
I love everything produced by 666. I mean what's not to love about theatre like pin up shoots of sailors, carni folk, ballerinas, religious and day of the dead babes?
See more of their work here.

Little Sparrow Night

Dave's not home till late tonight so it's time for an old favourite.

There's so many things I adore love about this film, the fact that it's about Edith Piaf is already a winner, but Marion Cotillard's performance is incredible. She portrays ever facet of her perfectly... I don't know why i'm so fascinated by beautifully broken yet talented women.. but I am. The makeup is incredibly done by Didier Lavergne and Jan Archibald, transforming such a beautiful actress to edith in her early twenties, to the iconic face that everyone knows as Edith Piaf, to the drug addicted state and her final battle with cancer.
If you haven't seen this film you should really take the time to watch La Vie en Rose.
